Chapter 12

That asshole owes me big time, and it’s time for him to pay up

“EVERYTHING AS YOU HEQUESTED, Misteh Ahch.”

I was standing in Sunset, the in-house tailor’s studio. Master Rohor had just finished sewing my order, and it was absolutely perfect. Especially considering the amount of money he was charging for the set of clothes. I wasn’t getting new-recruit discounts anymore.

That said, he did give me a little discount anyway — something like 10%. He said it would be really interesting to work on an order like the one I sent to him. Professional development, he said. Well, “phofessional development,” to be more accurate. But you know what I mean.

“I’m surprised how perfectly you made my idea into reality with this,” I said as I examined my reflection in the mirror.

“Well, I’ve been expecting something similah foh a while now. Although I must admit I’m suhphised that YOU made the fihst hequest. I thought it would be Madam Vanessa.”

A lot of time had passed since my first visit to the Master Tailor. My shoulders were broader, and overall I had grown just a little bit bulkier. I also seemed to have grown an inch or so, but that was just because my back had straightened out a bit. Actually, my overall posture was a lot better than before.

Master Rohor took it all perfectly into account. A deep-purple shirt, dark vest, loose-fitting slacks, and tall boots. All topped off with a beautiful cloak and wide-brimmed hat. Not a cowboy hat, but still — pretty cool.

Yes: the look was that of a mid-level hunter, with a wide belt and massive buckle to complement the image. It didn’t seem like a costume at all, though; it was entirely modern. Everything was elegant, neat, and devoid of any superfluous detail. A lot of convenient pockets, and sleeves that made it comfortable to wear a wrist deck.

Plus, the material looked very modern and expensive. A classic reimagined, you might say. Everything fit my form well, but nothing inhibited my movements. Overall, I felt really comfortable in my new outfit.

“It’s just that I’ve been far away from the city for a long time, training with my mentor,” I said when the Master asked where I had been. “All he has out there for clothes is a bunch of old cowboy gear. I actually got so used to it that jeans feel a little bit uncomfortable now.”

“And your synehgy stahted to imphove fasteh,” said Master Rohor with a nod.

“How’d you know?” I asked as I turned to face him.

“Simple,” he shrugged. “The more you look like a hunteh, the easieh it is to get into the hole. Ghole. Khole.”

“Role. I know what you meant.”

“Exactly. And considehing the insane pace of change in this game, it’s just a matteh of time befohe your new style becomes the latest chaze. Maybe you’ll actually be the spahk that ignites a whole new mainstheam.”

“Clothing in the style of Rorkh,” I smiled at my own reflection. “It’ll be hard for Over to find a skull.
